Men’s Group
For many men, it may seem uncanny to engage in topics, such as feelings, doubts, and fears because most men have been trained and conditioned to hold those kinds of thoughts to themselves. As men, we rarely get to share our stories, feelings, doubts, and fears without being ridiculed or being seen as weak-minded. We get a lot out of telling our stories, however, talking about thoughts and feelings does not necessarily establish community. The objective of the men’s group is to establish a judgment-free community through more than just telling our stories. It is said that “unless there is an energetic reaction to the traumatic event, that affect remains attached to the memory”. Telling our stories is just one part of the “energetic reaction”. Within the men’s group, we will use our minds (meditation), breath (transformational breathwork), and speech (Stories) as an opportunity to separate the traumatic or significant emotional events from the memories that keep us trapped in the past. Through doing this, we can feel more present in our day-to-day lives by knowing who and where we are. A sense of presence can lead to a sense of purpose and a sense of purpose can lead to a meaningful life.
